I recently did a project on plastic waste transportation of DOW Chemical and one result of that project was that the low density of plastic waste being collected results in many "empty" or bulky freights being hauled. Resulting in a low efficiency (lots of energy wasted to collect low volumes of plastic) My idea is to increase the density in centralised plastic waste collection bins by using heat and pressure. Think of plastic injection molding, but then in higher density cubes ready for more efficient ways of transportation. The benefits are: more energy efficiency and less waste collection trips. The downsides are the merger of different plastics and inclusing of non-plastics
Making waste disposal more efficient by increasing its density.
